Emergency & Night Visits
You should contact the surgery if you are worried that your illness cannot wait until the next surgery opening time. Sometimes you should ring for an ambulance yourself. For example, if you have chest pain which goes on for more than 15 minutes - don't delay. Dial 999 for an ambulance and tell them you think it may be a heart attack.
If you 'phone the surgery outside of surgery hours you will hear a message giving the 111 telephone number. You will be asked by a trained receptionist to supply more details about yourself, your symptoms and medication etc.
The information that you give will be passed direct to the duty doctor, who will contact you. If you need a home visit, this will be arranged or, alternatively, you may be asked to attend the local Out of Hours clinic.
